Die Zauberflöte -THE MAGIC FLUTE – One of opera’s most performed and beloved works, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte returns to the Met in a daring new production staged by renowned English director Simon McBurney that The Wall Street Journal declared “the best production I’ve ever witnessed of Mozart’s opera.” Nathalie Stutzmann conducts the Met Orchestra, with the pit raised to make the musicians visible to the audience and allow interaction with the cast. The brilliant cast includes soprano Erin Morley as Pamina, tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Tamino, baritone Thomas Oliemans in his Met debut as Papageno, soprano Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, and bass Stephen Milling as Sarastro.
Friends of Freiburg board member Sarah Stephens of Stephens Nicolson Artists Management offers a virtual introduction on Thursday, June 1, in advance of the Met’s live performance broadcast on Saturday, June 3, viewed in your local HD theater. Please join us with a bowl of popcorn or a glass of wine for Sarah’s opera introduction that will enhance your understanding and enjoyment of this exciting world premiere opera. This event will be held as on Zoom so audience members can engage and ask questions. No previous knowledge of opera is required.
Please note that the Zoom opera talk has been postponed until the fall. We will announce later date then.
